Excerpt
“I’m going to remember this as the worst time in my entire life. The very worst.” She shook her head. “There is nothing I can do to change that. Girls my age are playing sports, going to dances and parties, kissing boys. And that’s never been me. I’ve had a full time job at the grove and a part time job at the Stop-N-Shop. I’ve done nothing over the last few years except work my ass off and watch my family fall apart. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse…now all this.” She waived around to the house and to me and let out an awkward laugh. She took another hit off the bowl, passing it back to me. Her coughing much less than it was on her first try.
“Ti, how old are you?” I asked, clearing my throat as I ventured into territory I knew I shouldn’t. She was a pistol, even if she was a sad one, but there was a wave of innocence about her that had me both feeling bad for her and salivating for a taste of her.
This is for her, not you. I told myself. It was only a partial lie.
“Seventeen,” She said, sniffling. “Eighteen soon.”
“You ever been kissed?” I asked, her eyes met mine. “And not a peck on the cheek or a brief smack of the lips, but a real fucking kiss? One that leaves you without air in you lungs and your thighs pressing together in search of more?” I said, my voice coming out deep and strained. My cock coming alive at the thought of tracing my tongue along her pump lips.
“Why?” She whispered, and as soon as the words left her mouth I knew there would be no coming back from what I was about to do.
I pushed off the fire pit and pulled her up off the chair, pressing her tits into my chest and my straining cock against her stomach. I tipped her chin up and looked into her confused emerald greens. She followed my thumb with her eyes as I traced her bottom lip. There were too many lines marring her face, questioning what it was I was up to. I knew she would try to pull away at any second, try to stop me. But it was too late for that.
I was beyond stopping.
Just one taste.
“Answer the question,” I pressed.
“No,” she said with a slight shake of her head, and before she could try to argue, I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers.
I was already going to hell.
Might as well enjoy the ride there.
The finale to Bear and Thia’s epic love story.

Jenn’s Star Rating: 4.5 Stars
Where do you even begin in a review of a T.M. Frazier novel? I guess I’ll give you some general information first! Lawless is Bear’s Story and it’s the third of the King Series. King (Book 1) and Tyrant (Book 2) feature King and Ray (Doe/Pup) while Lawless is Bear’s first leading book. His second book Soulless is due out Feb/March.
I’m thinking there is pretty much no way you haven’t heard of T.M. Frazier, King, Pup, Preppy, or Bear because I’m guessing since it’s all over my FB newsfeed, then it must be all over yours. This is a book and a series that deserves the hype it’s getting, along with all the accolades. Both of us here at the blog (Jenn & Dottie) wait on pins and needles for every new release date from T.M. and these characters. In fact, I got myself into some trouble and missed signing Dottie up for the advanced release copy of Lawless (Lets just say she wasn’t too happy with me since it goes without saying that we sign up for anything and everything T.M. Frazier that we can get our hands on. Sorry Dottie). However T.M. loves a good surprise and she released the story early, so at least she got it sooner than was expected.
Here is my quick P.S.A. to get it out of the way and be done with. T.M. is magic with her story, her characters, twists & turns, and emotion. With that being said… this is a dark romance with some intense situations. T.M. Frazier worships her dark and twisty as well as the love of a ‘throw your e-reader across the room cliffhanger.’ So there is your warning, the only one I will give you. As someone who is not easily offended and someone who loves each of these things on the table… I am SO all about it!
I knew everything about being a biker. I didn’t know shit about being a man.
Bear is a big bad biker man (as Thia says). He grew up in a motorcycle club that his dad leads. The rules and laws of the lawless are all he knows. He doesn’t live by society’s rules. He lives by a code among bikers. He’s used to biker whores and the fear and respect of others around him. But now he knows the only person he can truly count on is King (sigh…) and a filthy voice in his head (because pancakes), at least until Thia comes along. Bear is up shit’s creek with only his fists and guns as aid (my money’s still on Bear against the whole MC) and Thia unknowingly runs straight into this mess because she’s always seen Bear as a savior.
I’ve been beaten, but I’ve never been broken.
Thia shows Bear the man inside of him. Their courtship is indecent and vulgar and oh so deliciously Bear. Thia is a spitfire, farmer’s daughter with a proclivity for guns. She has spunk, tenacity, and a wicked fast tongue for humor. With a little encouragement from Bear though, she isn’t afraid to be vulnerable and completely bare herself to him.
“I hate being afraid. Growing up I was the fearless one. The one who took care of everyone else. It’s like saying the words out loud is me acknowledging that this nightmare is real, and I don’t want it to be real. I don’t want any of it. And the worst part is that I feel so weak and this isn’t me. I’m not a weak girl. I’ve always been the strong one.”
The gang’s all back in this installment and we see King and Ray living their version of domestic life. We see babies and the hard edge of King softened a little bit from the love for his family. But let’s be real… having these things in his life really only make him more dangerous. He’s got stuff worth fighting for now. Others show up for the fun in their own dramatic ways. T.M. has created a spectacular supporting cast so of course they are back for all the Lawless fun!
Lets face it… Bear could have chemistry with a loaf of bread. However Thia is spectacular so it’s obvious to Bear and us readers that these two sizzle together. Bear and Thia have an electric spark that is undeniable. She’s inexperienced in lust while he’s inexperienced in love. Together they have to learn to bridge the gap and find what “normalcy” and love looks for their relationship.
“I’m the guy who’s about to fuck the stupid stupid girl.”
So…chemistry: check and that means there is obviously plenty of steamy scenes to factor into this review. T.M. never shies away from a sex scene and her male leads are alpha to the core so that leaves us with some sweat inducing, pebbles on the skin, somersaults within our bellies type of scenes in the bed of a truck, in a park, or wherever these couples get the urge to rub against one another! I so APPROVE!
He could rip me in two and I still didn’t care because it wasn’t what he could do to my body that I was worried about. It was what he could do to my heart.
This is a dark romance but that doesn’t mean there isn’t deep emotion. The characters within this series have seen their share of messed up situations. There is deep hurt but they still love hard causing similar emotions to well up in the reader. The twists and turns of a T.M. Frazier novel causes your stomach to knot up, your anxiety to spike, and your emotions to feel a bit frazzled. Then you’re hit with a wild ending and and left cursing the number of days in a week. Get your calendars ready to start the countdown for the Soulless release!
“Help me. Please. I don’t know what I’m doing here.”
“What are you trying to do?” I asked. He raised up, just enough to look me in the eye when he said. “I’m trying to love you.” We were two tortured souls. Both in more ways than one person should ever have to experience.
But we found each other. We needed each other. So help him I did.
Love! Can’t get enough! Must read! Top notch of romance and everything the community embodies! I can’t say enough great things about Bear, Thia, T.M. Frazier and everything else that is the King Series. I’ve never come in contact with anyone who didn’t absolutely fall in love with the madness that is this series and this very talented author. Join me in the sheet gripping, hair pulling, kindle swearing – ride that is Lawless.
Dottie’s Star Rating: 4.5 Stars
(Warning: This review is about the third book in this series. Just by its very nature, this review could contain what could be considered some minor spoilers for the first two books in this series. If you haven’t read them, please tread carefully.)
This book is a complete and total roller-coaster and after riding it, I’m not sure whether I want to run around, and get back in line to ride it again, or sit down for a while and process the ride I just took! It’s honestly oh-so-good but also completely nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat stressful. It’s dark. It’s delicious. It’s painful. It’s sexy. It’s Bear!!!
I have honestly been waiting for this book with baited breath since I finished reading Tyrant back in the middle of August. This is one of those series where you don’t feel you need a reread of the previous book(s) before you dive it; there’s no way to forget the craziness of King or Tyrant. This series is gripping; the only other series it reminds me of is The Dark Light of Day series, also by this author. Her writing style is very different from any other books I’ve read – she doesn’t pull punches when it comes to violence and raw emotions and the realities of living an outlaw life…
The half empty bottle of JD beckoned me from the side of the bed. Grabbing it by the neck I tilted my head back and poured the amber liquid directly into my mouth. I didn’t bother to wrap my lips around the bottle in fear of slowing the flow of whiskey. I swallowed it down in huge gulps until my throat burned like it was on fire, and the bottle was empty…the room started to spin. I closed my eyes in an effort to make the spinning stop, but it didn’t work. I kicked one of my legs off the bed and anchored my foot to the floor but my level of sobriety was way past that old trick working…My burner phone vibrated on the end table…I was thankful when it stopped dancing. I smashed my face back into the mattress. Three seconds later it started again, and again I ignored it. Three seconds after that it started yet again. The phone buzzed for the fourth time and I couldn’t take it anymore. I reached over and pressed the green button, holding it to my ear without saying a word…”You there?” King asked. I responded with a grunt and the sound of my lighter as I lit a cigarette…”You sound like fucking shit,” King said. “Well hello to you fucking too,” I sang. “We have a situation here more important than the sound of your fucking voice and as much as I’d like to take care of it for you, I wouldn’t know where to start…I just sent you a picture. Check it”.…I clicked the speaker button so I could talk to King and look at the picture at the same time. She looked familiar…”Look at her fucking hand, asshole,” King barked…I used my fingers to zoom in on her hand and my breath caught when I saw what she was clutching between her fingers. “I’m on my way.”….
I vacillated between whether I wanted to continue to love Bear or wanted to ring his neck at times. He’s an outlaw, yes. But there’s something about this man who just made my heart go out to him much of the time. We learn his back-story and it explains a lot about why he’s the man he is and also explains why Bear doesn’t always react the way most men would to any given situation. He’s a very complex character.
And then there’s Thia (short for Cynthia). She’s young but she’s old for her age. She’s had to carry the weight of the world on her young shoulders for a while and yet the heaviness became over-whelming with recent events. She’s scared. She’s in shock. She doesn’t really think of where she can turn for help; she just reacts and finds herself in a situation even more devastating than the last. She ends up dumped on King’s doorstep with an item that King knows belongs to Bear but he cannot for the life of him figure out why she has it.
There are so many twists in this story (are you surprised at all, this is, after all, T.m. Frazier’s work) and it is completely unpredictable. It’s becomes hard to know whom is an ally and whom is a foe. People you think can be trusted – well, can they? Hmm, I’m not entirely sure myself. You see, when the author sat down to write Bear’s story, my understanding was that she intended it to be a stand-alone book. But Bear’s story became much more complex than she anticipated and she decided to divide his story into two halves. But I’m sure you can guess…there’s quite a lot at stake by the end of this one and there were so many twists in the last few pages that I honestly felt like I had just stepped off that insane roller-coaster ride I mentioned above! I’m still not even quite sure what I read in parts of it in some ways; I’m still processing it.
And of course, the moment I was done, I immediately started messaging with Jenn – she was lucky enough to get an ARC and read it a few days ago. Believe me, our fingers were flying all over the keyboards trying to analyze what we’d read and compare opinions and theories and ideas and it sounds like we are both still feeling like our heads are reeling a bit! But reeling in a pretty interesting and entertaining way. It was pretty intense at times, yet a splendid story too.
I loved how Bear’s character changed in some ways within this book. His interactions with Thia became a bit of his undoing in some ways and his salvation in others. She brought out a side of him that we only caught a glimpse of in King. She brought out a side of him that scared the crap out of him but he found he craved none the less…
“Ti, [his nickname for Thia] how old are you?” I asked, clearing my throat as I ventured into territory I knew I shouldn’t. She was a pistol, even if she was a sad one, but there was a wave of innocence about her that had me both feeling bad for her and salivating for a taste of her. This is for her, not you, I told myself. It was only a partial lie. “Seventeen,” she said, sniffling. “Eighteen soon” “You ever been kissed?” I asked, and her eyes met mine. “And not a peck on the cheek or a brief smack of the lips, but a real fucking kiss. One that leaves you without air in your lungs and your thighs pressing together in search of more?” I said, my voice coming out deep and strained. My cock coming alive at the thought of tracing my tongue along her plump lips. “Why?” she whispered, and as soon as the words left her mouth I knew there would be no coming back from what I was about to do…I knew she would try to pull away at any second, try to stop me. But it was too late for that. I was beyond stopping. Just one taste. “Answer the question,” I pressed. “No,” she said with a slight shake of her head, and before she could try to argue, I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers. I was already going to hell. Might as well enjoy the ride there…
These two together were both exquisite at times and heart-wrenching at others. I wanted them to heal each other so much – but their story is not yet over and I have absolutely NO idea what will happen (given whom the author is) when the second book is released, probably in late February, 2016.
And word of warning – this is absolutely NOT a series where you want to begin with the third book (this one) in this series; it is definitely not a stand-along. In all honesty, to absolutely “get” this series even better, reading her Dark Light of Day series first (#1 & #1.5) would be ideal but at the very least, start with King and then Tyrant. We met King just for a moment at the end of Dark Needs (Dark Light of Day, 1.5) so it’s not absolutely necessary. It would just give you more insight and window into the world the author has created. But they are clearly delineated within their different series so no worries if you don’t want to read them both at the moment. (I will warn you, however, if you do read and enjoy this series, you will probably want to read the other one).
I, for one, loved this book. Although this is a pretty dark series, I have fully enjoyed each of them so far. There is violence in them. These are outlaws. But there is also growth, love, loyalty, friendship, and bravery within these pages. It was worth getting through the violent scenes to me because ultimately, this series and this book are absolutely worth reading.
And now the wait for book four begins….
