Jenn’s Star Rating: 5 Stars

Review by Jenn

You know that feeling you get when you’ve just finished an amazing book? You know the one! While reading you get goose bumps and certain scenes make you literally sit up with anticipation. Where you feel a deep range of emotions that take over your own mind and heart. The author has pulled you into a fictional world you never want to end. You want to go knocking door to door to make sure everyone has heard about this book. I love that feeling and my latest read has shaken my world.

Prisoned by Marni Mann has everything you could ever want and then it’s completely flipped upside down. It’s a dark romance with layers upon layers of depth and hidden agendas. Everything inside of you is screaming for this couple to make it. Not to mention that their narrative is a second chance love story.

“I believe our soul mate is revealed only once during out life. Maybe it’s a glimpse of a stranger. Maybe it’s our best friend. The timing may not always be right. But, when they’re shown to us, we know it’s them. Then, life happens. We grow. We age. We develop scars. And we remember that glimpse. Some are lucky enough to spend the rest of their lives with that person. Some, like me, have only memories.”

Kyle (female lead) and Garin are childhood best friends. In a world of poverty and crime they rely on each other (and their other best friend) to survive life in The Heart (the housing project where they grew up). Friends couldn’t be any closer than these three. Tragedy is common in the lifestyle in which they were brought up and its hardship that tears Kyle apart from her childhood friends. But years later another forces Kyle and Garin back together.

That’s about all I can tell you as far as storyline goes. With these dark twisty reads, the less I tell you the better. Prisoned has easily joined the top of the ranks with some of my favorite books. Marni Mann outdoes herself with these characters, the writing, and the development of the story. It’s abundantly clear that this is a story written from the mind of a very talented woman. A leading lady “prisoned” has a whole new arc to the theme with this story.

Garin is outstandingly written. His protectiveness and loyalty to Kyle is easily something to swoon over but he’s got this dark edge that leaves the reader with their mouth hanging open, needing to fan themselves, and also a little uncertain that all his intentions are pure.

Kyle is naïve but hardened. She’s paralyzed by circumstance but also from uncertainty of the right thing to do. She’s fierce yet vulnerable. She’s trustworthy yet dishonest. She’s a complicated character that brings layers of facets to the read.

I can’t say enough commendable things about Prisoned and Marni Mann. I wish I could go into depth about this story without giving away the magic of ignorance that you need going into this book. If you like dark with heart, a story twisted with a strong story and shockers than Prisoned is perfect for you. You’ll be hooked and wrapped up in the strong relationships of these characters. You’ll be invested in where this story goes and the aftermath of awe you’ll feel is guaranteed. I strongly believe Prisoned should be read by every dark romance reader and I give my deepest admiration for this author and her brilliant mind, alluring words, and complicated characters.

Jenn’s Star Rating: 5 FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC Stars!!

Review by Jenn

It has been a while since I’ve read an author, new to me that I LOVED this much. I devoured this book and when it was done, read three more books by K Webster. Dirty Ugly Toy was simply amazing. This is a dark romance so you have to be up for that challenge but I simply love the dark side. If you do too and you haven’t read Webster… well you need to leave this review right now and get to it! Trust me!

Jessica “Bunny” is a girl on the run who fell into life on the street. Drugs took over her life. She is willing to do anything to get her next fix. This makes her the perfect target for Braxton, who finds girls at their lowest and turns them into his perfect toy.

Doesn’t sound like much of a romance, right? Well it is dark romance and there are so many more layers to the story, some apparent and some hidden in suspense and secrets.

Jessica is feisty and we get to see her true personality emerge as the drugs leave her system and the story progresses. Braxton is an evil man, seemingly incapable of emotion or caring for another in a romantic way. Jessica is seemingly blind to Braxton’s darkness. Or is she? Maybe she sees something that we don’t.

This book captivated me. I was up late reading pages as fast as I could. The writing is twisted and amazing. K Webster’s writing style jumps out at you and it’s obvious your reading words from someone with true talent at what she does.

While I do love the dark side of romance I’m not someone who is really drawn to the captor stories, or Stockholm syndrome stories. I actually put off reading K Webster because the book descriptions sounded like that would be exactly what I was getting but two of my book buddies (Hi Marni and Julie!) bullied me at a bar until I gave in. Thank freaking goodness they did. I don’t really like being proven wrong but when it leads me to amazing work like this than I’m okay with it Great with it, actually. While many of K Webster’s books seem to have this running theme…they don’t really (of what I’ve read). Especially this one. The warning label on this story clearly says the novel contains “dubious consent” and this is true but it’s not the kind of thing were the guy has kidnapped a girl and keeps her locked in a cellar with no free will. There are also so many layers to the story that there is so much more to the characters, story, and situation of however Jessica ended up with Braxton.

I’d also like to say (now after reading 3 other K Webster books that were not linked to this book and all had a variation of the captor theme) that each book was so different from the next. Each book had its own unique and fresh story.

This book was beautiful in a way that only a twisted dark book can be. When the powerful light shines through it makes all that heavy darkness so worth it. Plus, I love sitting on pins and needles through the hard stuff. There is a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming and normally I pride myself on being able to predict where the story is going. Not this time and not with this book. No way. I am so glad that I have passionate friends who don’t let me miss out on something amazing. I hope I can do the same for you and convince you this story is a MUST READ. So go, now! Dive into Jessica and Braxton’s Dirty Ugly story. I’m sure you’ll love it just as much as I did.

PROLOGUE

I was mad at the world, at the whiskey for not being strong enough, at the drugs for not lasting long enough, at the fucking whores I banged for not getting me off when it was my fault my dick was fucking useless after a bucket of fucking blow. I went so far as to be pissed at random people on the street for laughing or smiling when I felt like I’d never be able to smile or laugh again.

How dare they?

How fucking dare they be move on with their lives like my friend hadn’t just died.

I was on the verge of losing what little sanity I had left when I rode out of Logan’s Beach and set off to find a place, or places, where I could numb myself against the feelings that followed me from town to town, cheap motel to cheap motel, girl to girl, high to fucking high.

Then, this pink haired girl from the past came barreling into my life and it was like for the first time, I’d found a purpose. A real genuine purpose and not just some shit Chop spewed out as orders that I and every other member of the Beach Bastards took as bible, but a true reason to live again.

To WANT to live again.

Someone to live for.

Ti was my chance at some sort of real happiness when Lord fucking knows I had no idea what that really was before her. The only glimpses of real genuine happiness I’d ever had came courtesy of Preppy, King, and of course Grace. Like when King tattooed us for the first time and we loved them, even though they were crooked and downright fucking awful. Like when Grace made me my very first birthday cake. Like the time King Prep and I sat at the top of the water tower and thought the world was ours to take.

Because at that time, it was.

Then there was Ti and my new happiness became the first time I saw her smile. The first time I kissed her. The first time I tasted her pussy by the fire. The first time she let me inside of her, shamelessly pushing through her virginity in a frantic need to make her mine.

Because that’s what she was.

That’s what she would always be.

And I will kill every motherfucker who dares to try and take her from me.

Mine.

Jenn’s Star Rating: 5 (+++) Stars

Review by Jenn

T.M. Frazier is an enigma wrapped in a double whammy of jarring plot lines and soul-splitting twists and turns decorated, of course, with a little bow-tie. Her skill and power of the English word never ceases to amaze me. When you think she’s going to go left, she takes a hard turn to the right. When you think you’ve got things figured out she shows you how she’s still got more tricks up her sleeve. Good luck keeping your footing when you pick up a T.M. Frazier novel because I guarantee she will pull the rug out from you when you least expect it. After five full length novels and one novella from her, I’ve learned to expect the unexpected and just hang on for the emotional and jaw dropping ride (Don’t forget the steamy alpha men!!). I trust in her vision enough to know I will curse her eight million times while reading but in the end I’ll be left day dreaming about the colorful worlds she creates.

Not all her tricks, twists, and turns are bad, despite her evil ginger nickname. She also brings good to the lives of her readers. Emotional twists that will have you smiling through the tears. Deadly men who are a force to be reckon with. Strong females who capture the hearts of these beloved men. Unbreakable friendships that defy the odds of time, space, and murder. Family that bleeds loyalty and love instead of hereditary blood. Characters that fight their demons along with whoever is simultaneously plotting against them.

Soulless is everything I have just described in the above two paragraphs. However, T.M.’s cunning ability to write dramatic and unpredictable stories leaves me hard press in what details to give you. Telling you almost anything specific leaves me in jeopardy of spilling those nasty spoilers we all try to avoid. I’ll try my hardest here because this is a story worth devouring. It’s a story that will capture your heart, bleed it dry, and then shock you back to life.

Soulless is Bear and Thia’s second book and the fourth book in the King Series. These books are absolutely not standalones and build upon themselves as the story unfolds. These are dark books that drip with emotion and love. Soulless picks up where Lawless left off with Bear in sticky law-breaking trouble.

“Why did he do this?” I asked. Bethany cocked an eyebrow at me like I should already know the answer. “The reason why any man does anything foolish and ridiculous. For love, of course.”

Bear is a man who has lived life as a biker. Not as a son or a man. The only two things he knows how to be is a biker and a friend. Until he meets Thia. It’s apparent early on he instinctively knows how to be a man in the ways he protects Thia and the care he shows for her. But on this journey he learns for himself that he’s more than just the ruthless biker his Prez has raised him to be. Along the way he finds allies and uncovers the ghosts of his past. He stumbles on secrets kept long before he was born. Through it all, he knows that he wants Thia and that there is nothing he wouldn’t do to protect the people that he loves.

Thia is a girl who never really belonged. She was an outcast in her early days of school. She was never enough for the mother who longed for a lost child. She was forgotten by a father who was too hurt to love. Her only friend left her when times got tough. Now she’s fighting to free herself from that past and learning who she is and how she fits into Bear’s world. For a girl who never belonged… it’s hard to see how you fit anywhere, let alone on the back of a bike of someone so lawless. Thia is a pink haired, gun shooting, farm girl who is hopelessly in love with a man who loves her back just as fiercely and that last part is really the only thing that matter for a girl confused about belonging. Because it doesn’t matter how she needs to act or behave or exist. All that matters is their love.

I realized that all my past worrying had been pointless, because not only did I fit into Bear’s world. He kissed my temple and dragged me against his chest. I WAS his world.

I have never before read an author who could absolutely shock me with things I could have never predicted. And I’m the type of girl who makes outlines while reading novels like this to give myself a visual map to help connect the dots. (Yes, I saw what I just admitted and yes, I know I am a huge dork. I like to be right and I like to solve puzzles. Whatever.) I gave up on this visual outline around the middle of Tyrant I think. No matter how you looked at the facts you just can’t see what TM has planned. She could easily convince you that one plus one equals three. The whole numbers system would change from her argument. I read a lot, obviously and I have rules I follow for my own mental sanity when it comes to certain type of plot lines. Even following my rules, I couldn’t keep up with the rhyme or reason of these stories. I mean this in the best way possible. I mean that these stories are shocking, gripping, and so damn well thought out. You couldn’t want for more.

T.M. Frazier is an author who will make you want to rip your hair out. She’s an author who will have you making countdown timers to her next release. These books will have you salivating for more until your mouth is dry. It’s the best combination of shock, thrill, adventure, romance, steam, and love. Bear, King, or Jake… whoever your prized bad boy is, will have you panting over your reading method of choice. Thia is a wonderful addition to Frazierland and easily holds her head high with Ray and Abby. If you’ve never read a T.M. Frazier novel… I suggest you go pick up The Dark Light of Day and I bet you will have made it through every single book available to you from this author in no time. If you’ve been waiting for Soulless… well have fun…devour! I know you won’t be disappointed.

Dottie’s Star Rating: 5 Stars

Review by Dottie

(Warning: This book is the second part of Bear and Thia’s story and simply by its nature, this review could possibly contain a couple of spoilers for Lawless. Proceed with caution)

The second I finished this book, my first thought was a bit panicky – how would I even begin to know how to review this one??? And when I talked to Jenn, she had the same thought. This is one of those books it will be a bit difficult to review because I don’t want to give a lot away with this one, but I’m going to try!

First and foremost, this book is absolutely not a stand-alone. If you were to try reading this one first, you would be hopelessly lost within the story. And honestly, you would need to begin with King, then move onto Tyrant, and then Lawless, and finally get to Soulless. I know this sounds like one heck of an undertaking, but believe me, this is not a hardship. Committing to reading these four books in this series (and it is my understanding there will be at least one more) is simply telling yourself it is perfectly okay to experience excellence. These books, each and every one of them) exceed the expectations I begin to read them with; plus, each of them has a twist (or twists) that you never see coming and then you have a WTF moment and your mouth drops to the floor! Now that, my friends, is the type of thing we book-lovers dream about! Honestly, my first thought (after the panic) was that this author is a genius! I just never saw that ending coming – like, at all! I love that! I love feeling my mouth fly open in shock and giddiness and feel like the twist just hit me like a ton of bricks!

I first began to read this author, T.m. Frazier’s books with her first, The Dark Light of Day (back at the beginning of 2015 after it had been on my TBR for a while). Once I read it, I was actually kicking myself for not reading it sooner! This author came out of the corner swinging and has yet to let me down – she’s only gotten better at her craft as she releases more books!

This book is the continuation of Bear and Thia’s story. If you’ll recall, we last left them with Bear being hauled off to jail and Tia completely perplexed as to what was going on. And this book, Soulless continues right where that one left off. And don’t start relaxing into this one as you read it, thinking T.m. missed the boat with this one and that it’s predictable…that is just simply lulling you into a false sense of security, just before she yanks the rug out from under you and you find yourself staring at your book or e-reader wondering what the heck just happened!

This couple surprised me. I wasn’t sure I even was a fan of Bear in the first book of the series (King), and although he grew on me, I honestly didn’t think he would be able to carry a book, let alone two, all by himself (well, along with his lady Tia and other supportive characters) but I was so very wrong. I loved Bear. I loved how he grew as a man throughout this series and became a man I could respect and care about.

And then there’s Thia. She’s got spunk. She’s a gal that although young, has lived more than some people in this world ever do in her young years! She’s a survivor, she beats the odds time and time again. Up until now, she’s become used to taking care of everyone, including herself, and isn’t used to having someone in her corner like Bear is in her’s. When she begins to doubt that’s where he wants to continue to be, he immediately sets her straight…

It’s okay, Bear. You aren’t under any obligation to me. You don’t have to protect me anymore. I’m fine on my own. If you don’t want me then. . .” She struggled against me, but there was no fucking way I was letting her go as her anger turned to sadness. He voice cracked. Tears sprung to her eyes. “You think I don’t fucking want you?” I asked. For a smart chick, she could be dumb as shit…”You don’t think it was fucking painful for me in there? Not to hear from you? Not to see you? I almost caved and called you a million times, but when I thought about what harm that could cause you. . .I couldn’t,” I finished, searching her face for some sort of reaction. She twisted her mouth the way she does when she’s thinking. The redness in her cheeks faded to pink. Her tensed muscles relaxed under my grip. “Well, when you put it that way,” she mumbled….

Neither Bear nor Thia has had a life that has been hearts and roses. But when they’re together, they form a unit that seems impenetrable. They quickly realized they belong together, they belong to each other in a way that is forever and this, in all honesty, made my heart melt just a little bit and I was thrilled to witness this relationship grow and mature. I loved these two together.

But here’s the thing – this book has some twists and turns that aren’t something I want to talk about. If I talked about it, I would ruin the storyline for you and that’s the last thing I want to do. So, ultimately, this review just has to be a short one!

Ultimately, here’s the thing…READ THIS BOOK! If you haven’t read this series, start now! This is one of those must-read books in a must-read series. It’s dark, but it’s also so completely hopeful. It’s unique. It will startle you. It will make you want to cry. It will shock you. And you will love almost every moment of the crazy ride it will take you on. I finished this book a couple of days ago and I still have such as book-hangover that I’m feeling a bit dazed. Yep, it’s that good!

Excerpt

“I’m going to remember this as the worst time in my entire life. The very worst.” She shook her head. “There is nothing I can do to change that.  Girls my age are playing sports, going to dances and parties, kissing boys.  And that’s never been me.  I’ve had a full time job at the grove and a part time job at the Stop-N-Shop. I’ve done nothing over the last few years except work my ass off and watch my family fall apart. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse…now all this.”  She waived around to the house and to me and let out an awkward laugh. She took another hit off the bowl, passing it back to me.  Her coughing much less than it was on her first try.

“Ti, how old are you?”  I asked, clearing my throat as I ventured into territory I knew I shouldn’t.  She was a pistol, even if she was a sad one, but there was a wave of innocence about her that had me both feeling bad for her and salivating for a taste of her.

This is for her, not you. I told myself.  It was only a partial lie.

“Seventeen,” She said, sniffling.  “Eighteen soon.”

“You ever been kissed?” I asked, her eyes met mine. “And not a peck on the cheek or a brief smack of the lips, but a real fucking kiss? One that leaves you without air in you lungs and your thighs pressing together in search of more?”  I said, my voice coming out deep and strained.  My cock coming alive at the thought of tracing my tongue along her pump lips.

“Why?” She whispered, and as soon as the words left her mouth I knew there would be no coming back from what I was about to do.

I pushed off the fire pit and pulled her up off the chair, pressing her tits into my chest and my straining cock against her stomach.  I tipped her chin up and looked into her confused emerald greens. She followed my thumb with her eyes as I traced her bottom lip.  There were too many lines marring her face, questioning what it was I was up to.  I knew she would try to pull away at any second, try to stop me.  But it was too late for that.

I was beyond stopping.

Just one taste.

“Answer the question,” I pressed.

“No,” she said with a slight shake of her head, and before she could try to argue, I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers.

I was already going to hell.

Might as well enjoy the ride there.

Jenn’s Star Rating: 4.5 Stars

Review by Jenn

Where do you even begin in a review of a T.M. Frazier novel? I guess I’ll give you some general information first! Lawless is Bear’s Story and it’s the third of the King Series. King (Book 1) and Tyrant (Book 2) feature King and Ray (Doe/Pup) while Lawless is Bear’s first leading book. His second book Soulless is due out Feb/March.

I’m thinking there is pretty much no way you haven’t heard of T.M. Frazier, King, Pup, Preppy, or Bear because I’m guessing since it’s all over my FB newsfeed, then it must be all over yours. This is a book and a series that deserves the hype it’s getting, along with all the accolades. Both of us here at the blog (Jenn & Dottie) wait on pins and needles for every new release date from T.M. and these characters. In fact, I got myself into some trouble and missed signing Dottie up for the advanced release copy of Lawless (Lets just say she wasn’t too happy with me since it goes without saying that we sign up for anything and everything T.M. Frazier that we can get our hands on. Sorry Dottie). However T.M. loves a good surprise and she released the story early, so at least she got it sooner than was expected.

Here is my quick P.S.A. to get it out of the way and be done with. T.M. is magic with her story, her characters, twists & turns, and emotion. With that being said… this is a dark romance with some intense situations. T.M. Frazier worships her dark and twisty as well as the love of a ‘throw your e-reader across the room cliffhanger.’ So there is your warning, the only one I will give you. As someone who is not easily offended and someone who loves each of these things on the table… I am SO all about it!

I knew everything about being a biker. I didn’t know shit about being a man.

Bear is a big bad biker man (as Thia says). He grew up in a motorcycle club that his dad leads. The rules and laws of the lawless are all he knows. He doesn’t live by society’s rules. He lives by a code among bikers. He’s used to biker whores and the fear and respect of others around him. But now he knows the only person he can truly count on is King (sigh…) and a filthy voice in his head (because pancakes), at least until Thia comes along. Bear is up shit’s creek with only his fists and guns as aid (my money’s still on Bear against the whole MC) and Thia unknowingly runs straight into this mess because she’s always seen Bear as a savior.

I’ve been beaten, but I’ve never been broken.

Thia shows Bear the man inside of him. Their courtship is indecent and vulgar and oh so deliciously Bear. Thia is a spitfire, farmer’s daughter with a proclivity for guns. She has spunk, tenacity, and a wicked fast tongue for humor. With a little encouragement from Bear though, she isn’t afraid to be vulnerable and completely bare herself to him.

“I hate being afraid. Growing up I was the fearless one. The one who took care of everyone else. It’s like saying the words out loud is me acknowledging that this nightmare is real, and I don’t want it to be real. I don’t want any of it. And the worst part is that I feel so weak and this isn’t me. I’m not a weak girl. I’ve always been the strong one.”

The gang’s all back in this installment and we see King and Ray living their version of domestic life. We see babies and the hard edge of King softened a little bit from the love for his family. But let’s be real… having these things in his life really only make him more dangerous. He’s got stuff worth fighting for now. Others show up for the fun in their own dramatic ways. T.M. has created a spectacular supporting cast so of course they are back for all the Lawless fun!

Lets face it… Bear could have chemistry with a loaf of bread. However Thia is spectacular so it’s obvious to Bear and us readers that these two sizzle together. Bear and Thia have an electric spark that is undeniable. She’s inexperienced in lust while he’s inexperienced in love. Together they have to learn to bridge the gap and find what “normalcy” and love looks for their relationship.

“I’m the guy who’s about to fuck the stupid stupid girl.”

So…chemistry: check and that means there is obviously plenty of steamy scenes to factor into this review. T.M. never shies away from a sex scene and her male leads are alpha to the core so that leaves us with some sweat inducing, pebbles on the skin, somersaults within our bellies type of scenes in the bed of a truck, in a park, or wherever these couples get the urge to rub against one another! I so APPROVE!

He could rip me in two and I still didn’t care because it wasn’t what he could do to my body that I was worried about. It was what he could do to my heart.

This is a dark romance but that doesn’t mean there isn’t deep emotion. The characters within this series have seen their share of messed up situations. There is deep hurt but they still love hard causing similar emotions to well up in the reader. The twists and turns of a T.M. Frazier novel causes your stomach to knot up, your anxiety to spike, and your emotions to feel a bit frazzled. Then you’re hit with a wild ending and and left cursing the number of days in a week. Get your calendars ready to start the countdown for the Soulless release!

“Help me. Please. I don’t know what I’m doing here.”

“What are you trying to do?” I asked. He raised up, just enough to look me in the eye when he said. “I’m trying to love you.” We were two tortured souls. Both in more ways than one person should ever have to experience.

But we found each other.  We needed each other. So help him I did.

Love! Can’t get enough! Must read! Top notch of romance and everything the community embodies! I can’t say enough great things about Bear, Thia, T.M. Frazier and everything else that is the King Series. I’ve never come in contact with anyone who didn’t absolutely fall in love with the madness that is this series and this very talented author. Join me in the sheet gripping, hair pulling, kindle swearing – ride that is Lawless.

Review by Dottie

(Warning: This review is about the third book in this series. Just by its very nature, this review could contain what could be considered some minor spoilers for the first two books in this series. If you haven’t read them, please tread carefully.)

This book is a complete and total roller-coaster and after riding it, I’m not sure whether I want to run around, and get back in line to ride it again, or sit down for a while and process the ride I just took! It’s honestly oh-so-good but also completely nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat stressful. It’s dark. It’s delicious. It’s painful. It’s sexy. It’s Bear!!!

I have honestly been waiting for this book with baited breath since I finished reading Tyrant back in the middle of August. This is one of those series where you don’t feel you need a reread of the previous book(s) before you dive it; there’s no way to forget the craziness of King or Tyrant. This series is gripping; the only other series it reminds me of is The Dark Light of Day series, also by this author. Her writing style is very different from any other books I’ve read – she doesn’t pull punches when it comes to violence and raw emotions and the realities of living an outlaw life…

The half empty bottle of JD beckoned me from the side of the bed. Grabbing it by the neck I tilted my head back and poured the amber liquid directly into my mouth. I didn’t bother to wrap my lips around the bottle in fear of slowing the flow of whiskey. I swallowed it down in huge gulps until my throat burned like it was on fire, and the bottle was empty…the room started to spin. I closed my eyes in an effort to make the spinning stop, but it didn’t work. I kicked one of my legs off the bed and anchored my foot to the floor but my level of sobriety was way past that old trick working…My burner phone vibrated on the end table…I was thankful when it stopped dancing. I smashed my face back into the mattress. Three seconds later it started again, and again I ignored it. Three seconds after that it started yet again. The phone buzzed for the fourth time and I couldn’t take it anymore. I reached over and pressed the green button, holding it to my ear without saying a word…”You there?” King asked. I responded with a grunt and the sound of my lighter as I lit a cigarette…”You sound like fucking shit,” King said. “Well hello to you fucking too,” I sang. “We have a situation here more important than the sound of your fucking voice and as much as I’d like to take care of it for you, I wouldn’t know where to start…I just sent you a picture. Check it”.…I clicked the speaker button so I could talk to King and look at the picture at the same time. She looked familiar…”Look at her fucking hand, asshole,” King barked…I used my fingers to zoom in on her hand and my breath caught when I saw what she was clutching between her fingers. “I’m on my way.”….

I vacillated between whether I wanted to continue to love Bear or wanted to ring his neck at times. He’s an outlaw, yes. But there’s something about this man who just made my heart go out to him much of the time. We learn his back-story and it explains a lot about why he’s the man he is and also explains why Bear doesn’t always react the way most men would to any given situation. He’s a very complex character.

And then there’s Thia (short for Cynthia). She’s young but she’s old for her age. She’s had to carry the weight of the world on her young shoulders for a while and yet the heaviness became over-whelming with recent events. She’s scared. She’s in shock. She doesn’t really think of where she can turn for help; she just reacts and finds herself in a situation even more devastating than the last. She ends up dumped on King’s doorstep with an item that King knows belongs to Bear but he cannot for the life of him figure out why she has it.

There are so many twists in this story (are you surprised at all, this is, after all, T.m. Frazier’s work) and it is completely unpredictable. It’s becomes hard to know whom is an ally and whom is a foe. People you think can be trusted – well, can they? Hmm, I’m not entirely sure myself. You see, when the author sat down to write Bear’s story, my understanding was that she intended it to be a stand-alone book. But Bear’s story became much more complex than she anticipated and she decided to divide his story into two halves. But I’m sure you can guess…there’s quite a lot at stake by the end of this one and there were so many twists in the last few pages that I honestly felt like I had just stepped off that insane roller-coaster ride I mentioned above! I’m still not even quite sure what I read in parts of it in some ways; I’m still processing it.

And of course, the moment I was done, I immediately started messaging with Jenn – she was lucky enough to get an ARC and read it a few days ago. Believe me, our fingers were flying all over the keyboards trying to analyze what we’d read and compare opinions and theories and ideas and it sounds like we are both still feeling like our heads are reeling a bit! But reeling in a pretty interesting and entertaining way. It was pretty intense at times, yet a splendid story too.

I loved how Bear’s character changed in some ways within this book. His interactions with Thia became a bit of his undoing in some ways and his salvation in others. She brought out a side of him that we only caught a glimpse of in King. She brought out a side of him that scared the crap out of him but he found he craved none the less…

“Ti, [his nickname for Thia] how old are you?” I asked, clearing my throat as I ventured into territory I knew I shouldn’t. She was a pistol, even if she was a sad one, but there was a wave of innocence about her that had me both feeling bad for her and salivating for a taste of her. This is for her, not you, I told myself. It was only a partial lie. “Seventeen,” she said, sniffling. “Eighteen soon” “You ever been kissed?” I asked, and her eyes met mine. “And not a peck on the cheek or a brief smack of the lips, but a real fucking kiss. One that leaves you without air in your lungs and your thighs pressing together in search of more?” I said, my voice coming out deep and strained. My cock coming alive at the thought of tracing my tongue along her plump lips. “Why?” she whispered, and as soon as the words left her mouth I knew there would be no coming back from what I was about to do…I knew she would try to pull away at any second, try to stop me. But it was too late for that. I was beyond stopping. Just one taste. “Answer the question,” I pressed. “No,” she said with a slight shake of her head, and before she could try to argue, I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers. I was already going to hell. Might as well enjoy the ride there…

These two together were both exquisite at times and heart-wrenching at others. I wanted them to heal each other so much – but their story is not yet over and I have absolutely NO idea what will happen (given whom the author is) when the second book is released, probably in late February, 2016.

And word of warning – this is absolutely NOT a series where you want to begin with the third book (this one) in this series; it is definitely not a stand-along. In all honesty, to absolutely “get” this series even better, reading her Dark Light of Day series first (#1 & #1.5) would be ideal but at the very least, start with King and then Tyrant. We met King just for a moment at the end of Dark Needs (Dark Light of Day, 1.5) so it’s not absolutely necessary. It would just give you more insight and window into the world the author has created. But they are clearly delineated within their different series so no worries if you don’t want to read them both at the moment. (I will warn you, however, if you do read and enjoy this series, you will probably want to read the other one).

I, for one, loved this book. Although this is a pretty dark series, I have fully enjoyed each of them so far. There is violence in them. These are outlaws. But there is also growth, love, loyalty, friendship, and bravery within these pages. It was worth getting through the violent scenes to me because ultimately, this series and this book are absolutely worth reading.

And now the wait for book four begins….

Review by Dottie

**Warning: By its very nature, this review contains spoilers for the first book in this series, Raze. If you have not yet read that book, please stop here and read that book first.**

Have you ever gotten to the very end of a book – like literally the last page and even the last word, and an explicative bursts out of your mouth as you realize you aren’t entirely sure you can wait for the next book in a series is released? This book is one of those! But really, I shouldn’t be surprised – this has been Tillie Cole’s modus operandi for a while now. And she’s done it yet again!

This is absolutely NOT a stand-alone type of book either. You must read Raze before you dive into Reap. It will simply not work out for you to read this without reading the first in the series prior; but then, why would you want to try it? With each of her series, Ms. Cole is developing her style and her talent and her books have a unique feel to them. They are dark, yes. But within the darkness, there is human hope. It’s a very difficult skill to master yet this author seems to be evolving without pause. I cannot tell you how much I look forward to reading everything she deems to write.

This book is about a whole new character in this cage-fighting series. In the last book we saw Luka fight his best friend, and defeat him (sad but necessary to protect his soul-mate). His best friend was 362 in the Gulag (underground cage fighter group/location) who taught him how to survive; essentially saved his life as a child and then again as an adult. As it turns out, 362 had a brother. When Luka learns of this, he is determined to find him. And the story begins to unfold…

Kisa’s hand landed on my cheek and I glanced up, repeating, “362 has a name.” I took a deep breath and said, “Anri. His name was Anri Kostava.” My eyes closed just hearing his name and said aloud. Then they snapped open when something else my father said hit home. “He was a twin. Anri had a brother.”….

But things haven’t been good for Anri’s brother, Zaal (or should I say, 221) either. He too has been used as a fighter in much the same way Luka had been before reuniting with his family and the love of his life, Kisa. And knowing Luka as we do (from his book, Raze), we know he will not stop until he finds Zaal. But when he does finds him, he finds someone who is more a monster than a man; and although he is determined to try to help him, even Luka is unsure of whether there’s anyone really left in there (within Zaal’s body) after all he has been through. But he wants to give him a chance so he takes him to his family’s beach home to detox from the drugs used to control him and control his mind. But what he didn’t realize was that his sister was currently staying there as a place of respite from their lives within the Russian crime family they were both born into. And when she sees her brother’s guards carry Zaal’s unconscious body into their vacation get-away, she cannot believe her eyes

Talia (Luca’s sister) finds herself pretty angry that her brother interrupted her peaceful time away and yet, finds herself drawn to the prisoner in their basement over and over again. When she cannot stop thinking about him…

I needed to see him up close…I’d watched this man for weeks; long hours spent in fascination, and as much as I tried, I couldn’t hate him. I wanted to, felt obliged to. . .but, hell, it had been impossible. How could anyone hate a man breaking so badly? A man who had never known love? A man filled with such pain? A man kept chained in darkness? An urge hit me. I needed to touch him. I had to, something within me fold me to reach out. No person should die in such a way. Alone, with no caring person there to offer comfort in their final hours…Then my gaze met the slave number on the top of his neck where his long hair had parted, a smaller version of the “221” branded on his chest. My hand traveled to touch the black ink and a flood of tears blurred my vision. “I’m sorry,” I mouthed, “I’m sorry you had this life.” I went to withdraw my hand…Before I knew it, strong hands were gripping my biceps, and a familiar pair of jade green eyes were suddenly boring into mine. Two hundred and fifty pounds of prime muscle were pinning me down. . . ….

Following the relationship that develops between these two was bitter-sweet. Zaal was such a lost-soul, but Talia sees humanity underneath all the abuse he has endured and cannot find it within herself to stay away from him.

These two characters were never meant to be and yet they were. They became everything to one another…

“You took care of me?” I swallowed as my throat felt too full with such attraction for this man. “Yes,” I whispered. “I took care of you.” His head dipped again and his finger ran down my cheek. His finger continued south, over my breasts, my nipples aching under his touch. Then his finger tapped over my heart, before moving to tap over his. “Because. . .you are. . .for me.” Time stopped as he said those words again. Though on this occasion, they weren’t a question. To him, I could tell it was fact. In his eyes, I was for him….

The almost child-likeness of Zaah in many ways (he was without affection and care, locked away in the dark when he wasn’t fighting, for many years) and this left his heart wide open for Talia to step into; and when she does, it changes both of them, forever.

This is a series that is so completely unique in so many ways. There is this underground, brutal cage fighting ring operated by several groups of Russian organized crime families. Yet, they are truly families. They have wives they love. They have children they love and want the best for and strive to protect. It brings a very human perspective to these characters where at first glance, would be very difficult to see as part of humanity at large. It was fascinating in a kind of perverse way; learning about this world and what is involved in their lives. The sacrifices they make. The choices that they make; both willingly and others, not so much.

My heart went out to Zaal. His life had been horrific. He had been treated as an attack dog rather than a human being. And Talia, well, she’d seen the love her brother and his wife (her best friend) had for one another and craved that for her life too. And when these two people began the process of discovering each other, it was beautiful in a pretty different type of way. But it is still a love-story, despite the setting it is built on.

I loved the absolute love for each other that developed between them. It felt almost as if the book was saying that despite the odds, there is someone out there somewhere for each of us – if these two can find it, we can too. And when a book can make you feel that way, it’s pretty special.

Oh, and the ending (the one I swore at), well let’s just say Tillie Cole left the ending in such a way that it’s wide open for book number three in this series – which I seriously hope she gets on, like, now!

About Tillie Cole

Tillie

Tillie Cole is a Northern girl through and through. She originates from a place called Teesside on that little but awesomely sunny (okay I exaggerate) Isle called Great Britain. She was brought up surrounded by her mother — a farmer’s daughter, her crazy Scottish father, a savagely sarcastic sister and a multitude of rescue animals and horses.

Being a scary blend of Scottish and English, Tillie embraces both cultures; her English heritage through her love of HP sauce and freshly made Yorkshire Puddings, and her Scottish, which is mostly demonstrated by her frighteningly foul-mouthed episodes of pure rage and her much loved dirty jokes.

Having been born and raised as a Teesside Smoggie, Tillie, at age nineteen, moved thirty miles north to the ‘Toon’, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, where she attended University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts honours degree in Religious Studies. She returned two years later to complete a Post-Graduate Certificate in Teaching High School Social Studies. She regards Newcastle to be a home from home and enjoyed the Newcastle Geordie way of life for seven ‘proper mint’, ‘lush’ years.

Tillie, from a very young age has been part of the theatre community and loves nothing more than to entertain through the mediums of cheerleading, dance, drama and singing (sometimes in the rain). She can also be found in nightclubs around the world imitating her favourite artists alongside her crazy BFF’s – The Teesside Massive – or, sat on the front row at the theatre bopping along to her favourite musical, ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show ‘, clad in a only a maids outfit, clutching a bag of rice and sporting a vibrant shade of red lipstick.

One summers day, after finishing reading her thousandth book on Kindle, Tillie turned to her husband and declared, “D’you know, I have a great idea for a story. I could write a book.” Several months later, repeating the same tired line, she was scolded by her husband to shut up talking about writing a novel and ‘just bloody do it!’ Immediately she set off on a crazy journey, delving deep into her fertile imagination. Tillie, ever since, has written from the heart. She combines her passion for anything camp and glittery with her love of humour and dark brooding men (most often muscled and tattooed – they’re her weakness!).

After years of teaching high school Social Studies and following her Professional Rugby Player husband around Europe, they have settled in Calgary, Alberta where Tillie spends most of her days (and many a late night) lost in a writing euphoria or in her dream of pursuing a dazzling career as a barrel-racing, tasselled-chap, Stetson-wearing cowgirl… Ye-haw!

He’s no stranger to lack of love…

To reclaim her, Joey must first become a man Lexi can be proud of…the kind of man she deserves.

You Loved me at my Ugliest is book 3 of the You Loved Me Series by Evie Harper and it’s the conclusion. Well sort of. No, it is…except according to Evie, characters from the You Loved Me Series will be meeting up with characters from her other series (Portland Street Kings). I love a good crossover! 🙂 Ugliest is Joseph and Alexa’s story. Each one of the books in the You Loved Me Series tied into a storyline created from book 1 but each book had it’s own twists, turns and drama. Evie does a great job of bringing new life within each book! (Once again: please be careful going forward in this review as it is the conclusion book of a series and the review may contain spoilers from earlier books!)

Joseph O’Conner. What do I say about this serious man of few words? His character and story found a special place in my heart. Of the three books I believe he was the male character who drew out the most emotion in me. He’s lived a tough life, always. He grew up in an evil house where he was raised to be cold and calculated, taught that women are yours to serve you and power is everything. As a reader, your heart breaks to hear his story and to see him fighting his demons within.

When pain is all you’ve ever known, how do you accept you’re worthy of a life with good in it?

However despite his father’s evil intentions for him, Joseph found light in a sweet and caring neighbor girl who would remain tied to his life in a big way. Alexa Kingsley has done things she never imagined she would do at the hands of an evil man. She has regrets. But above all, she loves Joey. She’s a tough, spitfire, who can break a man’s hand if need be. Her light might be the very thing that saved Joey growing up and helped to not turn him into the man his father hoped he would be. However, Joey comes from a long line of evil men and Alexa’s light may not be enough anymore and the darkness may swallow them both up. They have been fighting outside forces for so long that they don’t really know how to stop.

Our passion bound us together, but our love is why I will sin for this man, why I will always be by his side.

This couple has history and passion. They grew up together. Joey tries his hardest to protect Alexa every day of his life and Alexa follows him into the darkness. Until she can’t anymore, until she’s done fighting. She just wants a life with Joey and to stop fighting the evil. But can a couple with so much history and passion really stay away from one another?

Joey stops unexpectedly and looks me straight in the eyes. Expelling a heavy breath, he speaks in a thick voice, “I missed your voice, your humor, your feisty comeback and these” -Joey runs his thumb over my mouth- “lips, your perfect, soft mouth that drives me crazy, but most of all, I missed your smell.” Joey lowers his head to my neck and inhales deeply. “The smell of home.”

In Ugliest we also get some new supporting characters. As these are cousins to Joey you can imagine they carry some demons of their own. We see men raised to be evil fighting to be worthy. Lines are blurred and things aren’t exactly black and white in their world. They may not be torturing and killing innocent people but none of these men have their hands clean of blood. It’s what gives the You Loved Me Series a little edge. It’s not the fairytale story of happily ever after. It’s people surrounded by darkness fighting to create their happily ever afters.

…because their childhoods…has damaged their view of the world. Darkness needs an equal light to blast its way through.

I am extremely glad I found Evie Harper and the You Loved Me Series. Now that I have completed them I can definitely say it’s one you should be marking on your TBR lists and I will be following along with whatever Evie comes up with next. I’m now eagerly awaiting more from the Portland Street King Series to go live as it is another series to love by her. Happy reading everyone! ❤

You Loved me at my Weakest is book 2 in the You Loved Me Series by Evie Harper. As this is a suspense novel I would advise skipping this review if you haven’t yet read book 1  because it may give you or allude to spoilers from book 1 (You Loved me at my Darkest). But this is Emily and Kayne’s novel and it’s as heartbreaking as it is heartwarming. This couple has been through the ringer and now they are both trying to pick up the pieces. It’s a second chance story, not only for love but also for life.

Emily, or Emmy as Kayne calls her is Jake’s sister. She has just been rescued from five years of hell in the collection. Now she has to figure out how to adjust to life after the horrors and learn how to bridge the gap between the girl she used to be and the girl the collection has turned her into. She’s fighting to survive and not let her family and friends see how much she’s hurting.

Emmy and Kayne grew up together and he was Jake’s best friend growing up. They were highschool sweethearts that would stand the test of time, at least before Emily was abducted. Kayne has been loyal to Emmy physically and in his heart and soul since the day she was taken. He helped in the fight to get her back. Now that she’s home he finds that things are not the way he hoped. Emmy is distancing herself from him in self preservation and because she believes she’s no longer good enough to be with him.

“Emmy, I fell in love with you before I even knew what love was. And I will continue to love you until I’m old and senile and I forget what love is.”

Kayne may be one of the sweetest book boyfriends I have ever read. On top of that he’s an alpha with a dangerous job and a body to drool over. Nothing better than alpha who is in touch with his emotions. Kayne knows Emmy is his soul mate and he would rather live life alone than even think of moving on from her.

Emily is scared. Scared her emotional scars will never heal. Scared she is no longer the person her family thinks and wants her to be. She’s scared of an old horror finding her again. She’s been through a lot so obviously this story is not only about Kayne and Emmy but about her journey to learn to live again and to live with a smile on her face once more.

Now and again, in the back of my mind in a small corner, a light flickers and I imagine a world where I smile. A life where my family looks at me proudly and I know it’s because of everything I have overcome. I want that life so badly, but the light dims more every day. The other dark corners mock my ray of hope. They creep up on it like monsters in the night, cackling, knowing it’s only a matter of time before they extinguish the light.

Emily’s struggle and journey is heartbreaking. She has endured unspeakable things and been the pillar of strength and survival during her time in the collection. Now that it’s over she has to face everything that has happened to her and everything she feels that time in her life has taken away from her. There were definite moments while reading that I cried for Emmy, like outright ugly cried. It happens to the best of us. Evie does a wonderful job of capturing Emily’s pain and suffering as well as her journey to heal.

“You loved me at my weakest. Now trust me at my strongest.”

The suspense of the series is still alive and well during this installment. There are villains and allies and friends and foes. Sometimes the most unlikely of help will arrive and other times horrors from the past will come back to haunt you. Start this series now and you’ll be on the edge of your seat until the very last page of book 3. I was.

So now I’m sure you can see why I strongly recommend Evie, You Loved me at my Weakest, and the entire You Loved Me Series! You’ll be dying for more and loving these characters, each and every one of them!

Review by Jenn

You Loved me at my Darkest is book 1 of a 3 book series by Evie Harper. It’s a dark romance filled with bad guys and suspense. Darkest is Jake and Lily’s story and it’s filled with bad guys and blurred lines between right and wrong, good and evil, and love and hate. From what I have told you so far and the synopsis you have to know going into the book that the premise of the story may not be for everyone. You have to be comfortable with reading the graphic details of a woman in a bad place finding solace in a seemingly twisted man. So now that I have given you that little disclaimer… let’s move on because Jake may be in a place where evil is the social norm but there is so much more to him and this story.

Lily is from Australia and owns and works a farm with her sister Sasha they inherited after the untimely passing of their parents. These sister have always been close but tragedy has brought them closer and Lily, as the oldest has taken a more parental role to her sister, her best friend. Plans of seeing the world were put on hold but now they are finally taking the time to have this experience and are going to explore the States. They never thought their dream would turn into a nightmare.

Lily is strong and a fighter. She would do anything to protect her sister even if it means putting her own life in danger. I admire this and it’s part of what makes her character so great. If any of us have someone in our life who cares about us even half as much as Lily loves Sasha I would consider them extremely lucky.

Jake is a bit of a mystery at first. What the hell is this young, good looking guy doing in such a place filled with evil? Why is he so hungry to move up in the reigns of a house of horrors? Well that’s for you to try and piece together and discover on the journey of You Loved me at my Darkest. It’s a suspense novel… I can’t give away the secrets! 🙂

These two are in a situation where they both really don’t have anybody yet they are spending almost every moment forced together. Things are hard and confusing and finding comfort in one another may actually make things even more difficult and straining.

I look up at Jake, but he’s just staring at me so lost. “You have me, Lily. You may not want me, but you have me,” he says softly.

Evie does a great job of leaving you wondering about Jake’s motives, edgy to figure out what will happen next and how Lily will escape and survive physically and emotionally. Jake and Lily are great characters you want to see more of and learn what makes them tick.

Hearing my woman laugh is the only thing in this world that truly makes me feel like a man.

Jake is alpha to the core and reading a man’s POV who can think like the above excerpt is amazing. His happiness comes through her and with her. His concern in life is that she is happy and whole and that no one ever hurts her…again. He’d do anything for her even when it doesn’t seem like that’s true.

I like for my dark romance to have a balance. Evie does a great job with this. Jake and Lily have extreme chemistry and the story was thrilling. At times Lily’s witty or sarcastic thoughts or words bring a little light into the darkness. That balance is there in this series so you don’t come out at the end feeling like an emotional wreck after reading.

You Loved Me at my Darkest is dark romance done right in my opinion. The characters, chemistry and connection between friends, family, or lovers, and the thrilling storyline mixed with the dark elements create a story you read and love. The supporting character (though they only make brief features in book 1) are also fantastic. Evie Harper was an author unknown to me a month ago and now I have read all four of the books she has currently published (3 from this series and 1 from another). That should tell you that I enjoyed this author and would recommend her and that’s just what I have done!

Ready for more Jake and Abby? Of course you are. The Dark Light of Day continues with the Dark Needs novella.

In Dark Needs we witness Jake, the killer. Although this time it’s not murder for hire but revenge murder for his family. You can get behind a fantasy of a man who will do anything for you, right? I can and that is one reason to love T.M. Frazier among many.

After everything Jake and Abby have been through we get to see some light but it wouldn’t be called Dark Needs if there weren’t some trouble ahead. This couple won’t let corruption, misunderstandings, or the law stand in their way.

Bee deserved better than me, but I was drawn to her innocence, and she was drawn to my darkness. Together, we made a whole lot of no sense, and it was just the way I liked it.

Jake may have transformed into a man who fishes with a little girl with a pink fishing pole but at his core he’s still the hitman he was born to be. He loves Abby and he makes no apologies for it, even to her. Jake and Abby’s transformations within these stories are another reason this story deserved to be bragged about.

If you love dark romance with laughter, strong connections, suspense, and romance then T.M. Frazier is your girl. If you’ve read The Dark Light of Day then you must continue on with Dark Needs to get the whole story. You won’t be sorry.
